Towards the end of the events on Gra圜ris' terraforming facility, Miki receives two energy impacts on its chestplate and loses its right hand in an attack.Murderbot, whom I fell in love with both in All Systems Red and Artificial Condition, is back in Rogue Protocol, the third of four planned novellas in The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. Miki is a human-form bot with big, opaque, globe-like eyes and a body made of bare metal.ĭespite having its cameras and sensory capabilities built into its head, its memory and processors are located in its lower abdomen. It readily expresses its emotions, and takes joy in spending time with its friends and games. It trusts easily, too innocent to anticipate reasons why it shouldn't, but there's no one it trusts more than Don Abene, its owner and close friend.

Miki is a heavily sheltered robot with a childlike manner. It really thought its humans were its friends, because that’s how they treated it. Miki was a bot who had never been abused or lied to or treated with anything but indulgent kindness. Don Abene tries to order Miki to safety, but Miki refuses, forcing its humans into safety and attacking the Combat Bot with Murderbot. This dynamic continues until they're attacked by the last CombatBot, which attacks their ship as they leave. Murderbot withdraws as a result, and Miki presses it about this, not understanding the fresh wave of distrust. Murderbot stows away on its group's ship, and then eventually joins them openly when they encounter the Combat Bots lying in wait.ĭespite promising that it wouldn't, it tells Don Abene that Murderbot's supposed Consultant Rin doesn't exist when she asks it directly. It notices the drone Murderbot has hijacked and reaches out, and Murderbot eventually reaches back to get a foothold in the group's activities. For all that Miki has had little experience with humans outside of its owner and associated crew, it seems comfortable and familiar with the inspection process and its duties. Miki is part of the fact-finding research group contracted by GoodNightLander Independent to make a report on Gra圜ris's abandoned terraforming platform outside of Milu. Miki is a human-form bot that serves as an assistant and friend to Don Abene and her team.

I have human friends, but I never had a friend like me. In my feed, Miki said, I never talked to a bot like me before.
